NPHC Membership Intake Programs at The University of Alabama

The University of Alabama endorses the process of membership intake as adopted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The Council concluded in the early 90’s that pledging is no longer a requirement for membership into their fraternities and sororities. Since the decision of the Council, each organization has revamped their membership process and continues to evaluate and make changes to existing policies.

The Office of the Greek Affairs understands  the history and traditions associated  with inquiry concerning joining traditionally African-American fraternities and sororities. We feel that it is our responsibility to provide students with appropriate information as they consider membership in these organizations.

The Office of Greek Affairs in conjunction with the UA chapter of NPHC will sponsor a semesterly informational session called the NPHC Greek Convocation, in an effort to provide this information to students. Each NPHC member organization will give a brief overview of membership and the Greek experience. Information is also presented on current university policies regarding hazing.

Attendance at the NPHC Greek Convocation is required for all persons interested in being considered for membership in an NPHC fraternity or sorority. Two sessions will be offered during the academic year, at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. Students must attend at least one of the two sessions to be considered for membership. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Dr. Stacy Jones, Director of Student Development at 348-3326.
